The Sportsrider is on the way - ETA Mid October!! Last summer we received a huge number of enquiries regarding Boabs Sportsrider vessel. This is the only vessel that Port Stephens is missing from it's range and I'm very pleased to announce that we have one on the way!
The new Sportsrider comes with the following features:
* 5.7m length * 2.4m beam * 6 Adult capacity * 135hp Honda 4 Stroke Outboard * 5hp Honda 4 Stroke Outboard (Auxiliary) * 100L under floor fuel tank * Wakeboard tower with fixed bimini * 27 Meg Radio * Jenson iPod capable stereo * Humminbird Colour 788Cxi Fish Finder/GPS Combo * Dual batteries with emergency switch and voltage sensitive relay * Level flotation buoyancy foam * Bait Board * Fish Box * Manual & auto bilge pumps * Dual axle trailer with hydraulic braking system * Full safety equipment as per Boab's high standards
This vessel is going to be fantastic. An excellent family cruiser it boasts a 6 adult capacity but with seating for 11, this means plenty of room for the whole family to stretch out and enjoy the ride. A great bimini for shade, swim platform on the transom and a full wakeboard tower for the water sports enthusiasts.
For the fisherman it has a 2Nm offshore limit, is fitted with a bait board, fish box and Humminbird Colour 788Cxi Fish Finder/GPS Combo.
This really will be a do anything craft. The vessel will be based out of Port Stephens but will also be available for use at our sister franchise, Lake Macquarie.
Expected delivery is mid October. We're currently accepting bookings from November onwards and will begin taking October bookings as we nearer the delivery date and can confirm the boats exact arrival date.

Fishing Report - 19 June 2010 The Bonito have invaded Nelson Bay again and are back in good numbers. Grant Gill from the Shoal Bay Beach Club and a few mates took the Centre Cab out Saturday and we're picking them up all over the place. Triple hook-ups on the troll we're fun but they could also be picked up on baits and plastics.
Some solid Tailor have been caught off the beaches and the Salmon numbers are also picking up with the odd Jew in the mix.
The Snapper haven't fully come on yet but there are still a few nice fish around. The cooler it gets the better the Snapper fishing will be.
The wild weather of May has passed so why not get out there now and enjoy some nice winter fishing.

Runabout available again
Boab Boat Hire Port Stephens increased it's fleet late last year to include a Runabout. This vessel was promptly picked up for what resulted in being a 6 month long hire meaning that whilst we had a new boat, we really didn't, as it was snapped up in the blink of an eye and wasn't available to anyone else.
The Runabout is now back from this long hire and ready to go.
The Runabout is the smallest vessel in the Boab range but it's still high on features. It's a fantastic vessel for numerous uses. For the fisho’s it’s a great boat for getting right up in to those upper reaches of the Karuah River or Tilligerry Creek. For the budget conscious it’s our cheapest vessel coming in at $195 a day and It’s also the only Boab vessel that can be hired without a licence via a speed regulator being fitted to the 40HP Honda outboard (for those with licences the power is unrestricted).
The Runabout comes with the following features:
* 4.5m length (Polycraft hull) * 1.9m beam * 40HP Honda 4 Stroke Outboard * Jensen CD Player * 27 Meg Radio * Humminbird Piranhamax Fish Finder * Bait Board * Single axle aluminium trailer (1000kg tow weight) * 4 Adult capacity * In-shore use only
As always the boat is fitted with a full complement of safety equipment, ropes, fenders and anchors etc
Hire rates start at $195 a day and as with all our boats they are on a sliding scale, reducing with the more consecutive days you hire.
Ring 1300 00 2622 to make your booking and remember this boat can be hired with or without a licence.

The whales are here!!! The humpback whales have begun passing through Port Stephens on their northern migration.
Whales have been sighted almost daily over the past week. Most sightings have been just outside the heads around Fingal Island or down the coast a little around One Mile & Boat Harbour.
If you want to see these amazing creatures then a Boab boat can get you there. Our Kimberley with it's 5 person capacity and 2Nm offshore limit is great for those who want to head out around Final Island. If you want to go a bit further then our Centre Cab with it's 7 person capacity and 5Nm offshore limit will get you down to One Mile & Boat Harbour.
Why not make a day of it, enjoy some fishing, sightseeing, whale watching and cruising all in one. Call 1300 00 2622 to make your booking.

Fishing Report - 21/05/10 The Centre Cab was out Friday with the boys onboard chasing a few fish offshore.
The water out there is still quite warm so the reds were a bit few and far between but the guys did manage a good haul of Tailor and a nice Dolphin Fish on the troll to Broughton.
Still plenty of bait around in close and still good warm conditions, get out there and get amongst it!

Fishing Report - 31 March 2010 Well if the Trailer Boat comp is anything to go by the report should just read "Everything's on the bite" as there were some great fish of just about every species caught over the weekend right down to a 2Kg mud crab caught on a hand line!
More specifically though Flatties have been around in good numbers on the gravel patch off the heads, a few Dollies around the Minefield, plenty of medium sized Snapper around the Sisters off Broughton Island, good Tailor on the back of the beaches and HUGE numbers of Bonito. Look for the Bonito schools around the heads, they make for great bait and are fantastic fun on light gear.

2010 Trailer Boat Fishing Tournament Wrap Up The 2010 Trailer Boat Fishing Tournament was held last weekend, March 26/27/28 in the beautiful waters of Port Stephens. The weather gods were shining on us with absolutely pristine conditions through Friday and Saturday, I haven't seen it as flat offshore as it was on Saturday in a long time. The weather picked up around midday Sunday but with the last weigh in at midday and the presentation kicking off at 1:30 the timing couldn't have been better.
Boab Boat Hire Port Stephens weren't involved in sponsoring this year unfortunately but we definitely will be next year. Two Boab boats did however hit the water with myself heading up Team Boab Centre Cab and Steve Arnold heading up Team Boab Kimberley. Sadly though our efforts weren't good enough to be weighed in. There were some stomper fish weighed in over the 3 days; 6+Kg Flathead, Kings and Cobes in the 10-15Kg range and some good Snapper to 6Kg along with many other great fish.
If you've never been involved in the Trailer Boat comp before this is something I would highly recommend. A great event ran by a great bunch of guys.
See you all there next year.

Fishing Report - 20 February 2010 A quick report from the weekend. The Centre Cab headed out Saturday and the boys onboard spent the day mixing it up with trolling, bottom bashing, baits & lures between the heads and Broughton.
The catch species of the day - Bonito. They're still out there in huge numbers. The guys did also manage to pick up a mixed bag of small Snapper, Flatties, Tailor and various other odds n ends but the main catch of the day was Bonito.
The water in close has cooled a bit (20-21 degrees) and as such no sign of Dollies around the Minefield or Broughton, hopefully they'll return once the warm water moves back in.

Now's The Time To Get On The Water! The weathers still warm, the fish are still hungry and the bay's still a great place to spend a day. But the holidays are over, things are a little quieter, a little more relaxed....
Nelson Bay is a fantastic holiday destination but a lot of people only see it during those hustle and bustle weeks over Christmas or Easter. During those times it's a vibrant mix of sights and sounds with an energy that you can almost feel.
But outside the holiday periods everything calms down and it presents a more tranquil, peaceful and relaxing environment in which to catch up on some well deserved rest & relaxation.
This is when some of the best boating experiences can be had. We're still experiencing beautiful warm summer weather but the boat ramps are a little quieter and the waterways a little less busy. This is the time when you can get out on the water and find a private spot all for yourself.
For those who like to fish there's also a lot less competition from other boats and in fact it's only now that some of the best fishing occurs as the warm ocean currents heading south catch up with the warmer conditions we've already been experiencing on land.
So why not get out there now and enjoy what Port Stephens has to offer. Mid week bookings at this time of year are generally available even at short notice but do try to book in a few days to a week early if you have a particular weekend date in mind.
See you on the water!

Fishing Report - 15 February 2010
Well the fish are certainly on the chew all around Port Stephens/Nelson Bay at the moment. This always seems to happen in the week or so after some bad weather, or more so some big seas.
The local tackle stores are reporting everything from big numbers of Marlin off the shelf to Bream and Whiting all over the bay.
A few mates and I picked up two Dollies to 11kg last weekend along with several smaller ones. And we're not the only ones. The Centre Cab was hired out last Thursday with the guys onboard trolling lures all day. They lost count of the amount of Bonito they hooked and also did great with 8 Dollies taken around the Minefield. Similar catches were taken over the weekend.
The water in close is quite warm at the moment and with the FAD still MIA, Dollies are likely to be holding around the Minefield for some time to come.
Add this to the solid supply of Flathead off the bottom and Kingies around Big, Little & Shark Island and you have the makings for a great days fishing.
The ramps and waterways are a bit quieter now with the holiday season having come to an end so it's the perfect time to get out there and have the place to yourself!

Fishing Report - 11 December 2009 Kingies, Tailor, Flatties, Salmon & Squid!
These fella's are all out and about in good strong numbers at the moment. Kingies to 5Kg are being taken from the Marina breakwall, around Shoal Bay moorings, off Shark Island and Little Island. I've had a few hirers in the past couple of weeks enjoy a battle with these tough fighters.
Tailor and Salmon are running strong along all the beaches and around the heads. Always remember to keep an eye out for bait schools busting the surface, or birds working an area, it's a sure fire sign of Tailor & Salmon on the chomp. Troll a lure by the edge of the school or throw a bait or plastic at them, you can't go wrong.
Good catches of Flathead are being taken on the drift between Tomaree Head & Shark Island as well as a few clicks further out directly behind the islands.
And as always the squid are hanging around the Shoal Bay moorings as well as around the Marina breakwall.
The weathers certainly warmed up, the fish are on the bite and Boab has your boating needs covered so why not get out there and have a go!

Fishing Report - 19 October 2009
The past few weeks has seen several Boab boats head out for a day and come back with a feed. The reports I'm hearing back from our hirers are of good whiting throughout Jimmy's with the odd smaller Flathead thrown in.
Tailor have been easy to come by almost anywhere in the bay with people picking them up trolling metal slicers around the heads, on baits in Salamander Bay and a few big ones have come from flicking plastics around Middle Island.
A few nice pan sized Snapper have been taken from around both Little and Big Islands along with some nice Flathead and good size Bream too.
Broughton Island seems to be the place again for the big fish with a nice 9Kg Snapper taken around the sisters over the weekend.
Overall things are looking good with the weather dying down and the fishing picking up.
See you on the water.

Broughton Island - A Port Stephens Wonderland
Broughton Island is one of the most beautiful places in the Port Stephens area. Accessible only by boat, Broughton Island is a mecca for fishing, often used as a base camp for those on weekend or longer fishing trips. Safe anchorage can be found in Esmeralda Cove with numerous public moorings available for passing vessels.
The sandy beaches and walking tracks make the Island not only great for fisherman but also fantastic for those wishing to get away for a private picnic with loved ones. With pristine crystal clear waters Broughton Island is also a favourite amongst divers and snorkelers.
An island paradise only a short trip from Nelson Bay, Broughton Island is a must for anyone wishing to enjoy a North Queensland experience without needing to hop on a plane.
Check out the Image Gallery for some pics taken by Alicia and I a few weeks back. On this particular day we had the island to ourselves and wasn't it a beautiful sight.
The following is an extract from the National Parks sign located in Esmeralda Cove, detailing the history of this magnificent corner of the world
Broughton Island, a part of Myall Lakes National Park, is approximately 125 hectares in area and 2 kilometres long. The island is NSW largest coastal island and is alleged to be the only island with sandy beaches accessible to small boats.
Worimi People – the first inhabitants The Worimi were the first people of Broughton Island prior to and following the land becoming separated from the mainland around 9000 years ago. They have always believed the land is the mother of all life. To utilise the mother’s resources, she needed continued physical and spiritual protection and maintenance. Evidence of this long ongoing protection/maintenance and traditional lifestyle can still be found on the island today via a number of sites such as middens, stone artefacts and axe/hatchet grinding grooves. Canoes constructed from tree bark were used as transport from the mainland to the island. The Worimi launched their canoes from Dark Point, 3.5 kilometres away.
A history of fishing In colonial times fishing was an important industry in Port Stephens. Coastal Steamers from Sydney dropped Italian fisherman up the coast as far as Cape Hawke, collecting their catches on the return trip ensuring fresh deliveries to the Sydney markets within 12 hours. During the 1890’s, Italian fisherman constructed low cost huts as temporary accommodation on Providence Beach to save them the daily trip back to the mainland. By the 1920’s they were replaced by Greek fisherman who occupied the site until the 1950’s. A second settlement was constructed as Esmeralda Cove in the 1930’s and remains today. The last resident of Providence Beach moved to this cove in the late 1950’s. The Great Depression of 1929 saw the introduction of more sophisticated boats and fishing methods, ending much of the professional fishing on the island. This left the island predominantly as a base for recreational fishing. The existing buildings on the island bear little resemblance to the original structures. Some of the huts have been rebuilt as a result of storm damage. All of the huts have been modified over time. The huts are now used by members of the Broughton Island Conservation Society incorporated under a license from the Department of Environment and Conservation.

2009 Port Stephens Whale Watch Festival
This year's Port Stephens Whale Festival will be held from October 3 to October 12.
The Whale Festival has something for all the family - Car Displays, Whale Displays, Educational Talks, Live Music and Prizes & Giveaways.
The Whale Festival is a fantastic time to visit Nelson Bay, Port Stephens and see all that our beautiful water way has to offer.
Dozens of whales are seen each year just outside the heads of Port Stephens within the reach of both the Centre Cab & the Kimberley so why not jump onboard a Boab boat and take your very own personal whale watch tour.
Spring is here and so begins what looks like to be a fantastic boating season. The weather around Port Stephens has been unseasonably warm during the end of winter, kicking off our boating season early to the delight of many.
Boab Boat Hire Port Stephens is now in to it’s second year of operation and is here again ready to provide you with a great day’s boating.
Our fleet began with a Kimberley, extended to include a Centre Cab in January 2009 and we’re now pleased to announce that we have a Runabout on the way. The Runabout is a fantastic vessel for numerous uses. For the fisho’s it’s a great boat for getting right up in to those upper reaches of the Karuah River or Tilligerry Creek. For the budget conscious it’s our cheapest vessel coming in at $195 a day. It’s also the only Boab vessel that can be hired without a licence via a speed regulator being fitted to the 40HP Honda outboard, for those with licences the power is unrestricted.
Our Centre Cab and Kimberley are still here and going strong. The Kimberley is our fantastic all-rounder, perfect for fishing, family cruising, skiing and tubing. The Centre Cab covers all these activities with the added benefit of being able to go further offshore. This is where the Centre Cab really comes in to it’s element, it’s such a competent offshore vessel so why not consider a day trip to Broughton Island with the family, it’s a magnificently beautiful yet secluded and private part of the world.
This year again we’re pleased to be able to offer more than just a boat, we can offer a whole boating package. We can happily supply ice, bait, rod hire, ski tube, ski’s, wake boards and more so why not leave it up to us to plan your whole day (fishing tips come free!).
Don’t forget all Boab vessels come on trailers, so with a suitable tow vehicle you can tow them to any waterway in NSW. If you don’t have a tow vehicle we’re more than happy to deliver and launch for you.
And finally a heartfelt thank you to our existing clients, your business is truly appreciated.
Thank you

Fishing Report - 27 May 2009 For the latest on what's biting around Nelson Bay check out the reports from two of our great local tackle stores:
1st May 2009
Fishing Report - 1 May 2009 The weather of the past week or so has kept a lot of people off the water but the coming week looks fantastic and with the settling down of the weather should come some great fishing.
What has been reported lately are good catches of Bream off the D'Albora Marina breakwall and behind Soldiers Point. Good flatties in Shoal Bay and the Fingal Bay Lighthouse drift just outside the heads. Kings are showing up around Shark Island and Broughton Island. Still a few Dollies off the FAD.
With the water cooling the Snapper will start appearing in greater numbers. Try Fishermans Bay, Boat Harbour, Little Island or North to the sisters and Broughton. The YellowFin Tuna should also be turning up out wide soon to.
With winter rapidly approaching now is the time to get in and enjoy some last minute watersports before Mother Nature turns the waterways in to the realm of the Winter Fisherman (more on Port Stephens Winter fishing in coming weeks).
Boab Boat Hire Port Stephens currently have two vessels, the Kimberley & the Centre Cab. Whilst the Sports Rider is generally regarded as Boab's Ski boat, the Centre Cab & Kimberley are both well up to the task. The Centre Cab with its roof mounted ski pole is very popular with the wakeboarders. The Wake from this large boat is fantastic and the 150HP Honda is powerful enough to tow multiple skiers or wakeboarders.
The Kimberley, our allrounder, is often overlooked as a family cruiser / watersports boat but with a 5 adult capacity, large bimni for shade and a cushioned lounge area at the bow this boat suits more than just fishing. The Kimberley's 75HP will happily pull a single skier or wakeboarder and will fling a tube around faster than you'll want to go!

Team Boab takes out the Twin Rivers fishing competition
The Junction Inn Hotel Twin Rivers fishing competition was held over last weekend with entrants coming from all around the Newcastle area to have a crack at the prizes on offer.
The competition was based from the Junction Inn Hotel in Raymond Terrace and was conducted over Saturday and Sunday with the final weigh-in at 2pm Sunday afternoon.
It's with great pleasure that I congratulate my good mate Jason Challen with his success in winning Mulloway Champion and Senior Angler. Jason is a long time fishing partner of mine and backup operator for Boab Boat Hire Port Stephens. Fishing aboard the Kimberley with his Dad Graeme, Jason managed to land a 9.1kg and a 6.1kg (uncleaned) Jewie to take out two titles for Team Boab.
The Twin Rivers fishing comp is a great event for those gun river fisherman who love their Bream, Flatty's and Jew. With a large prize pool on offer supplied by great local businesses such as Tacklepower and Home Timber & Hardware and a small entry fee it's a fantastic event to be involved with.
The Kimberley is a terrific boat for this sort of event, or any estuary fishing for that matter. Fitted with a colour Furuno sounder, live bait tank and auxiliary motor for safety or that super quiet trolling it's available to hire for pleasure cruising, casual fishing or serious tournament action.
Boab Boat Hire is looking to sponsor the Twin Rivers event next year and would also love to hear from any other local tournament organisers who are seeking sponsors.
Check out the Image Gallery for some pics of the event, the leaderboard showing the cleaned weights of all the prize winning fish and Jasons tournament winning Jewfish.

Fishing Report 07/03/09 - Dollies & Snapper around Broughton
I headed out in the Centre Cab Saturday morning with one of my regular fishing mates Jason and his dad. Launched at Little Beach just on 6 and headed straight out to the heads to grab a few livies. The bait was all over the place and very easy to come by, within 15 minutes or so we had over 30 slimies. A few went in the live well and the rest straight in to the esky to be cut up later for bait.
We headed wide for a bit to check out a new spot we'd heard of and couldn't believe how warm the water was. It averaged 24 degrees and touched on over 25 at places. The new spot turned out to be a flop however so we headed towards Broughton. Stopping at the 21 we had a bit of a bottom bash on the drift. Nothing was biting but we thought we spotted a few flashes on the surface so we threw out a burley trail to see what was there. Shortly after there were little Dollies all around the boat. We hooked about 10 but they were all babies with the biggest one only going 55cm so they were quickly returned to the water.
As quickly as the Dollies turned up they left so we moved on and began a drift along the south side of Broughton. The drift was quiet till we rounded the western point of Broughton and drifted between that point and Inner Rock. Once here the fishing fired up with hookups on every cast. Unfortunately we were smack bang in the middle of fish pre-school with virtually every cast being an undersized Snapper. We landed dozens and dozens of these fish in the few hours we spent drifting back and forth with the only really success being one decent size Snapper, a Flatty, two Trevally and a Leatherjacket.
Good fun all the same and great to see such huge numbers of young healthy Snapper in the area. Check out the Image Gallery in the Port Stephens location for a few pics of the baby Dollies and rest of the day's catch.

Fishing Report 27/02/09 - Stripey's and Dollies in close at Port Stephens! Today hirer Carl Norman took the Centre Cab and headed out for a day's fishing off Port Stephens and had some great success with the Dolphin Fish and Striped Tuna.
As we speak there is a nice current of warm water right on the coast of Port Stephens. The patch of 23.5 to 24 degree water extends from the coast out for about 4 Nm. Carl spent the day trolling skirted lures up and down this patch of water with the most success just off the Fingal lighthouse. He managed over 30 fish for the day and whilst most were undersized he did manage to get stripey's to 6Kg and some legal Dollies. This is some awesome fishing in close and something we haven't seen yet this season.
There's no need to go wide as Carl reported back that beyond the 4Nm mark the water dipped back to 22 degrees and the fish disappeared. I've also heard third hand today that there's plenty of bait in close and the small Black Marlin have moved in.
Most days in the coming week look like fantastic weather so why not take the opportunity and jump aboard a Boab boat and see if you too can get amongst the action!

Fishing Report 25/2/09 (Newcastle)
Headed out from Newcastle Harbour Wednesday evening in the Centre Cab with a few mates. Dropped in at Carrington and proceeded to head out to the harbour mouth to catch a few livies. We had to drain and re-fill the live bait tank once we reached the harbour mouth as with the recent rain the water we picked up further up inside the Harbour was a very dirty brown.
The slimies were easy to come by off the wreck on the Stockton breakwall and we soon had a full live bait tank. The plan was to head out to North Reef but we thought we'd troll some slicers behind the breakers first in chase of a few tailor. We're not sure if it was the impending storm, the overcast weather or the dirty water pushing out from the harbour but we didn't get a single hit which is highly unusual. Tailor on metal slicers behind the breakers are usually a given so after 45 minutes or so we turned east and headed to North Reef.
The run out conditions were a bit rough with the wind whipping the chop up in to some short sharp waves but the Centre Cab was in its element and handled it easy. As we approached everyone was eager to see if we could spot the usual schools of Kings hiding under the buoy. What we did find was a screaming current, couple that with the wind and chop and it was virtually unfishable. Our live and dead baits drifting very quickly and the overcast choppy conditions didn't suit the skirted lures. I did manage to hook the smallest King I've ever seen however. It was around 30cm and was promptly returned to the water.
With the sun soon setting we headed back inshore and attempted a flatty drift behind the Signa however unfortunately the wind and current were just as bad there. So with nothing but a few slimies in the live well we called it a night and headed in just on sundown. All in all it was a pretty ordinary afternoons fishing but everyone agreed it was just nice to be out on the water.
For those thinking of hiring a Boab boat don't forget you're not limited to the waterways of Port Stephens. Boab boats are all on trailers and the boats from Port Stephens can go to any waterway in NSW. So why not hire a boat and enjoy a day on the Harbour or the waters of Lake Macquarie.

Fishing report Feb 09 Well the fishing of late has been a bit up and down. Things were firing nicely towards the start of the month with several Boab Boat hirers catching some nice mixed bags of Flatty & Bream with the odd Snapper, Flounder and even the stray King thrown in there for fun.
However the rain we got over the past week or so has changed things a bit. The fishing is still good towards the mouth of the bay but further inland the dirty water has forced all the fish out. Not that it seems to be a bad thing as they all seem to have congregated down at the mouth of the bay!
Try fishing with bright coloured plastics in and around Shoal Bay, Jimmy's, Corrie Island and just about anywhere around the heads and the islands. You too could come home with a fish like the 90cm plus lizard i saw at Little Beach Ramp yesterday, taken on a 2" gulp whilst drifting Jimmy's.
For those looking to wet a line offshore most of the local reefs are producing nice fish with Shark Island holding plenty of rat Kings with a few bigger ones thrown in the mix. Try further down towards Fishermans for Snapper.
Good luck and i hope to see you out there!

Site Seeing in Port Stephens / Nelson Bay
Boating in Port Stephens is not all about the fishing. For those who aren't interested in wetting a line there is an abundance of marine & wild life to see both in and offshore.
Of recent several hirers have spotted penguins to the north of the Fingal spit as well as huge schools of flying fish around the islands just outside the heads - all within the 2Nm limit of the Kimberley and well within the 5Nm of the Centre Cab.
The dolphins are always around and will often travel right up in to the western reaches of the port. Likewise throughout the cooler months the whales put on a show right at our doorstep as they cruise by close to the shoreline. They too have even been spotted cruising inside the bay at times.
When you add this to the beautiful waterways and sandy beaches of Shoal Bay, Corrie Island, Winda Woppa & Jimmy's Beach, Port Stephens & Nelson Bay really does make a great place for a family cruise.
I hope to see you out there soon! Chris Perry Boab Boat Hire Port Stephens

The Centre Cab has arrived!!!!
It was with great pleasure that Boab Boat Hire Port Stephens took delivery of its Centre Cab on Christmas Eve, a great Chrissy present for us indeed!
After a few days tweaking the setup the boat was out for its first hire on Saturday the 3rd of January with hirer Tom Leitch the lucky first onboard and the reports back from Tom we're all positive.
I have taken it out for a few days and it's an impressive craft to pilot, a large capable vessel but yet still easy to drive and manoeuvre.
So if your're looking for a big boat that can handle it all from offshore fishing to sightseeing and water sports this is the boat for you. The Centre Cab has all the following features and more:
* 6m Length * 2.5m Beam * 5mm bottom, 4mm sides * 150HP Honda 4 Stroke * 8 HP Honda 4 Stroke Auxiliary * Jensen Stereo - IPod ready + high quality speakers * Bait Board * Ski Pole * 27Meg Radio * VHF Radio * Furuno Colour Sounder * Hummingbird Colour GPS * Dual axle aluminium trailer with electric sensa brakes * Full complement of safety equipment to handle its 7 adult capacity
The Centre Cab starts from $345 a day during standard season and $400 during peak and don't forget our rates are on a sliding scale so the cost per day goes down with the more days you hire.

Fishing Report – Nov 28 to Dec 7 2008 It's been a few weeks since my last report so this one covers all the news from the hirers of the past two weeks who went fishing plus a few outings myself.
The weather has really warmed up over the last couple of weeks and the fishing is getting better to. Hirer Marty Bracher took the Kimberley out on the 28th and whilst he did get a bit of rain he still managed to bag flatties both offshore and inshore. Marty worked the drift from Point Stephens (Fingal Lighthouse) through to the Tomaree headland with good success. Later in the day he tried the western reaches of the bay and managed more flatties and a few Bream off the oyster leases in Tilligerry Creek just up from the Lemon Tree Passage boat ramp.
Hirers Athol, Tony and the boys headed out the next day and also worked the drift from Fingal Lighthouse through to Tomaree Headland for a nice mixed bag. Check out the Image Gallery for some pics.
This drift is a fantastic spot to fish. The lighthouse is the 2Nm limit for the Kimberley and it does it with ease. The area provides good protection from any southerly winds or swells and it always fishes great. For those wishing to try something with a bit more fight then instead of drifting with a bottom bashing rig try moving in a bit closer to the little island just off the point, it's a great spot for snapper and kingies. Throw a plastic, a pillie or troll some skirted lurers or surface poppers.
Speaking of Kings that's the other thing to report from Athol & Tony's day. I've tried over past weeks unsuccessfully but the boys managed to hook a Kingy off the Breakwall whilst trolling a skirted lure. Unfortunately it was lost boat side but it shows there's some good fishing to be had in the comfort of the bay.
During Tuesday & Wednesday of last week I was lucky enough to have 5 Boab boats and a whole crew of people in town for the filming of an ad we'll be displaying in the local Nelson Bay cinema. And even more luckily we were finished by midday Wednesday allowing us time to head out for a fish in the afternoon. With a couple of young kids onboard we didn't want to go far so we headed to the trusty flatty grounds as mentioned above. We must have hit the pre-school though as 25 or more flatties in and we only had one legal one. A few nice flounder added to the catch though.
So of recent most of the fishing has been around the Breakwall or over the flatty grounds offshore but these areas are producing fish each and every time so it's well worth a try.

Fishing Report – Thursday 20th November 2008 Headed out after work Thursday evening for a fish in Newcastle Harbour, here’s the report.
A few of the boys and I decided we’d head out for a fish after work during the week. With most of them working down in Newcastle we thought we’d try our luck with the Harbour. Waiting around for the 5pm launch, the hail that came through at 3pm wasn’t filling me with confidence. Luckily however the hail was short lived and the storm passed through by 4pm so we headed off to the ramp at Carrington and launched the boat.
For those from not around the area, Newcastle Harbour is about 45 minutes south of Nelson Bay. It provides some great river fishing for flatties and bream, and quick access to the open sea for some nice bottom bashing. Boab Boats can be trailered to this waterway (to any NSW waterway in fact!)
With the boat in the water we headed up past the Stockton Bridge and not surprisingly the weather had turned everyone off so we literally had the whole Harbour to ourselves. We crossed paths with a few commercial vessels but not one other fishing boat which is a shame because after the storm it was a beautiful evening. We started off with a few drifts around the entrance to Fullerton Cove. The tide had just turned and was running out so that allowed us to motor on up till it got to shallow then drift back in to deeper water. Several drifts netted us a couple of flatties and a few small chopper tailor.
We decided then to make a move and head offshore to bottom bash the waters north of the Stockton Breakwall. An hour or so drifting here scored us a few more small tailor but not much else unfortunately. So with the sun setting we called it a day and headed back in.
Overall not a bad evening on the water considering the weather that passed by during the afternoon.

We've placed an order for a Centre Cab and it's currently being constructed. We have a rough delivery date of between Christmas & New Years - just in time for the Christmas holidays!
This will be the first of the revamped Centre Cab. Whilst not differing hugely from existing models it does have a few small design improvements.
The Centre Cab will come fitted as follows: * 6m Length * 2.5m Beam * 5mm bottom, 4mm sides * 150HP Honda 4 Stroke * 8 HP Honda 4 Stroke Auxilary * Jensen Stereo - IPod ready + high quality speakers * Bait Board * Ski Pole * 27Meg Radio * VHF Radio * Colour Sounder * GPS * Dual axle aluminium trailer
Plus of course a full complement of safety equipment to handle its 7 person capacity.
Hire rates start at $345 a day during the regular season and $400 a day during peak. And like all the boats, our rates are on a sliding scale and get cheaper per day with the more days you hire.
With a 7 person capacity, 5Nm offshore limit and powerful 150HP Honda 4 stroke this boat will appeal to all. It's great for skiing, big and rooming for cruising and a great performer offshore for those who want to chase a few fish.

Fishing Report - Sunday 16th November 2008
Headed out Sunday in the Kimberley with good mate and regular fishing partner Jason, here's the report.
Launched from Little Beach at 6am in some fairly heavy rain although we weren't going to let this put us off. The fish are wet already so the rain shouldn't put them off the bite! Luckily the Kimberley's large bimni kept us fairly dry and it was somehow oddly peaceful to be out on the boat in the rain but still protected from the elements.
Heading out to the heads we checked in with the Volunteer Marine Rescue. The offshore weather report for the day wasn't looking to crash hot so our plans of fishing the islands just outside the heads had to be changed. Luckily in Nelson Bay though a bad day’s weather offshore doesn't mean an end to your day's boating, there's still a huge amount of water to explore in the bay itself.
Not wanting to waste time we decided we'd just grab a few live baits and head back to the breakwall. Sounding around the Furuno picked up a school and in a matter of minutes we had them in the live bait tank. A quick spurt back to the breakwall and we rigged a live bait and slow trolled the wall. The colour Furuno (I love this sounder, it's fantastic) picked up several large fish up to 120cm but unfortunately they weren't biting.
After an hour or so and a few bream whilst waiting for the live bait to be taken we up'd anchor and headed west. The morning before I had put out 4 crab traps in the Tilligerry Creek area, 2 at Mud Point and 2 in the channel south of Bulls Island. We checked the traps at Mud Point, nothing but a small bream which was released. The 2 south of Bulls Island netted 2 crabs but both undersized which were also released. The crabbing should only get better in the coming weeks though.
A quick drift East of Bulls Island landed us a few whiting but we really wanted another go at those Kingfish so we headed off back to the Breakwall. The Breakwall is a great location, 2 minutes from the Little Beach ramp by boat and nice calm waters for fishing with kids. Whilst you can fish it from the land you've got so many more options from the boat and a lot more chance of landing that big Kingfish should you be lucky enough to hook one.
Again we sounded around and again it looked promising with fish ranging from 60 to 120cm's seen on the sounder. Anchors away and we threw a few more live baits down. 30 minutes later there was some fierce surface action but unfortunately no hookup. A shovel nose shark a few minutes later signalled that the Kings had moved on so we called it a day.
All in all a fun day on the water, the weather was clear for the most part and we landed a few fish, good times!
