Fishing news Don't let a rainy morning put you off a fishing trip. When sea conditions are right a cloudy day in my experience is best for fishing the shallow inshore reefs for snapper. An unweighted bait cast well in front of the drifting boat is the go or alternatively anchor and berley up with the baits being floated down the trail. The local gurus are getting good bags of pan sized snapper around the Durras headlands and these fish should stay about while the water is warm. Lots of boats on the Clyde this weekend. Despite the rain the river water is crystal clear. I throw the odd slice of stale bread off the wharf at Nelligen from to time and the bream attack like a school of piranhas - got to be a good sign! Good fishing from Boab

New Polycraft Arrives! Our small "fleet" is now joined with a 4.5 metre polycraft. "Polyanna"as she is affectionately known, can hold 4 adults or a family and is ideal for cruising the Clyde or nearby lakes. For those wishing to tow the kids on a tube etc Polyanna is fitted with a Honda 40 and consequently well suited for such activities. As she is comparatively inexpensive we expect her to be used often during the latter summer period.

Batemans Bay Franchise Up and Running. Boab Boat Hire Batemans Bay commenced operation in the New Year with a Sportsrider shortly to be followed by a 4.5metre poly side console. The family operators have lived in the Batemans Bay area for over 30 years and are well versed in the delights of this wonderful place. The coastline and inshore waters provide boat fishing for snapper, kingfish, flathead and other prized species which is the envy of the more heavily fished northern areas. The pristine Clyde River is navigable and fishable for 15kms upstream from the bridge and the tranquility of the upper reaches is truly a delight. Above Nelligen bridge the straight sections provide a mecca for waterskiers and those wishing to try out their horsepower. Recent introduction of the Batemans Marine Park, whilst it has put some small areas out of bounds, is already having a very positive effect on both offshore and river catches. With the cessation of most forms of commercial fishing within the Park the expectation of bumper catches has us all excited. We are able to offer our facility to hirers wishing to fish from Ulladulla in the north to the light tackle havens of Narooma and Bermagui and beyond. Principal offshore access from Batemans bay involves crossing a sandy bar for which a competence document is required. Crossing the bar however is easily avoided by the use of alternate launch sites. Inshore fishermen are blessed by our rugged coastline which provides headlands giving shelter from the prevailing winds and enabling good catches even in moderately adverse conditions. Principals are only too happy to pass on suitable locations relative to the weather of the day. Tight lines and we look forward to meeting you soon.
